This week has been quite active so far with too many relevant upgrades to count, among them a new hplip for HP printer devices, sqlite, rpm and another upgrade to Samba and The Gimp, in no particular order of importance. Others may argue upgrades to sane, php, pycairo, udisks2 and lvm2 are more interesting or the fact that an upgrade to the Blackbox window manager has arrived. No, it's not dead yet. There are also updates to Vim 8.1 and the 4.19 kernel.
Slackware in the main, but also other bits and bobs on Linux, BSD, and all sorts of things of interest.

The Latest Slackware Updates in the Current Tree
Lots of interesting updates and upgrades again. An updated kernel-firmware package, Mozilla Thunderbird 60.3.0 and also upgrades of getmail and the notifyd daemon in Xfce4 to name but a few. Slackware is still incredibly fast on this older machine and there is really no point in using a source based distribution which I had been considering for a while. Anything like that would entail a lot more work and couldn't be any more responsive.

Kernel 4.19.0 Now in Slackware Current
Last week brought many important upgrades, most notably a major jump to the latest stable kernel line with 4.19.0. With this Slackware is as up to date in current tree as it hasn't been in a long time and can truly compete with rolling distributions while also being immensely stable. One of the reasons why I moved from Arch to Slackware current for my rolling installations years ago. Also we have upgrades to Firefox, Pan, Python 3, Samba, NetworkManager, and many others.

Slackware Current Updates - up to the 19th October
Slackware current updates for the last two weeks, up to the 19th October. With this amount of updates and the last full release version of Slack more than two years away you could think Slackware has turned into a rolling distribution. Maybe it has. And it would be a very good one at this if it turned out that way. Rolling, but still stable and predictable, with regressions fixed asap by our ever watchful Pat. Alright, let's stop speculating and rambling.

Last Week's Updates and Upgrades
Another day, another dollar. Or, err, another kernel update. The Linux kernel in Slackware current now stands at 4.14.73 as of Saturday 29th September. Lots of other miscellaneous security flaw and bug fixes as always, among them for the Apache web server httpd daemon. Better upgrade this one if you got a server running. Enjoy.

This Week's Updates in Review
All updates since last Friday, the 14th September. The newest kernel in Current is now 4.14.71. Not that every small, incremental update would matter that much unless you're got some piece of hardware you're desperately waiting to be supported. At the same time, kernel.org is up to 4.18.9 for latest stable and 4.19-rc4 in the development branch. If you need it, but my pc's here are running perfectly fine with older kernels. Salut and see ya.

Last Week's Security Updates, Fixes and Upgrades in Slackware Current
A whole slew of updates again and Linux kernel 4.14.69 has landed in Slackware Current. We can keep going like this forever. Also Samba, with a new dependency on lmdb, has been upgraded to 4.9.0. Whether that's a good thing? You might want to keep the old one around for some testing of the new package if really relying on Samba and running current. Rock on!

Last Week's Updates and Upgrades in the Current Branch
Last week brought us the Linux kernel 4.14.68 in Slackware Current, as well as an update to Mozilla's Firefox ESR which is now at 60.2.0 plus a whole raft of other upgrades and security or bug fixes to curl, ghostscript, sysvinit, tar and pkgtools. See the detailed changelog from the Slackware page below. Apart from this, an update for Chromium is also in the pipeline over at AlienBob's, as indicated in his blog post dated 8th September.

Last Week's Updates in Slackware Current
Last week was a bit slow, with only comparatively few updates to the current branch. The most noticeable are to Vim and Samba has been upgraded again. Openssh and Python as well and the cpu frequency governor has been adjusted.
Well, not much more to say. The weekly current updates in review. Have fun with Slack.

Last Week's Slackware Current Upgrades in Retrospect
Loads of upgrades in the current branch again, notably a security updates for samba and, perhaps less important, of ntp were issued. Also more updates to the kernel-firmware again and no less than three kernel upgrades in three days which brought the kernel version up to 4.14.65, but of course another upgrade has been issued since. Blimey. Also noteworthy is that LibreOffice has now been recompiled against the latest boost update in current last week and LibreOffice 6.1.0 is now, although unannounced, available in AlienBobs' repository.

Last Week's Updates and Upgrades in Slackware Current
Last week's major news in current were two upgrades to the Linux LTS kernel which is now at 4.14.62 and the fact that Mozilla Thunderbird's first release of a major new version with a bump to 60.0 has made it into Slackware already. This should not be upgraded from 52 as extensions and themes are apparently not compatible with earlier versions so keep both around for now if that's important. Also boost had an upgrade which means LibreOffice is currently not working until compiled against boost 1.68.

This Week's Slackware Current Updates in Review
Hi folks, quite a good number of updates again last week, including two kernel upgrades, now at 4.14.60, and a long expected upgrade to the Mozilla SeaMonkey Suite to 2.49.4. Also upgraded have been hplip printer driver, harfbuzz, python to name a few and a new glibc has been added to the testing directory. Apart from these updates, I am back on Slackware full-time as this is the best distribution to run on my hardware without throwing a hissy fit. Absolute Linux review coming up shortly.

This Week's Slackware Development Updates in Review
The list of updates this week seems longer than it is. There were two kernel upgrades this week and at this pace if you're not checking and upgrading every day you might as well have skipped the one to Linux 4.14.57. To me there is no point applying kernel updates every few days but it's nice to know we're on the edge of long-term stability here and that they are made available in current as soon as. Great stuff, and Slackware development is certainly active. There's also more news from the master re. his financial situation. It goes without saying that buying from the Slackware store thinking one would support Patrick with this is not recommended anymore.

This Week's Updates in Slackware Current
Here's a list of the latest updates over the course of the week, notably the gstreamer plugins have been upgraded and the kernel is now at 4.14.56 to ensure you're always running the latest in the LTS line that Slackware is using.
Also, on 17th July it was 25 years since the Slackware 1.0 release although apparently there's some dispute or uncertainty whether it was really the 16th August. Anyway, enjoy!

Last Week's Updates and Upgrades in the Slackware Current Testing Tree
Here we are again, a recap of the week's updates to the testing branch. Every week a new kernel it seems, this is now at 4.14.55. Apart from that a slew of upgrades again like the kernel firmware package and Pulseaudio. Also binutils have been upgraded to 2.31. This is all for the x86_64 architecture which I am tracking but 32-bit is usually identical.

Last Week's Slackware Current Updates in Review
Last week was a bit quieter than what we have gotten used to. From a user perspective the most interesting upgrades are probably Thunderbird 52.9.0 and MariaDB to 10.3.8. A slight incremental change of the kernel version to 4.14.53. If you're running the current branch this should be of interest. Happy slacking.

This Week's Changes in Slackware Current and 14.2 Changelogs
The change log in Slackware-current continues to be busy, with rebuilds, fixes and upgrades coming out almost on a daily basis. All this activity bodes well both for an up to date but still stable system if you're running current and for a new release being not too far off any more this year. Vim and Networkmanager have been upgraded and the kernel is now at 4.14.52, with the necessary sources, kernel-headers and modules packages of course available as well. Mozilla Firefox has now switched to 60.1.0 ESR, indicating this will be in the next stable release.

This Week's Updates in Slackware Current, First Indications Slackware 15.0 Getting Closer
This week rebuilds of the aaa_elflibs and the pkgtools packages with version numbering for Slackware 15.0 were upgraded in the Slackware Current branch, a sure indicator that a new release is edging closer. Apart from that, lots of patches, recompiles and rebuilds. There's also been another kernel upgrade to 4.14.51 that is worth mentioning. All in all a good sign, Slackware is very active and it now shouldn't be too long anymore before the first beta will be out for testing. Slackware 15.0 it is!
