News from the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona

Normally I'm not too keen on all the latest gadgets. I still don't even own a smart phone and am using a 'traditional' LG mobile I bought for £9.95 instead. It does all I need, so I'm certainly not an early adopter. However, this years Mobile World Congress brings some interesting developments, and as somebody interested in computing and related technology in general it's hard not to get excited.

The BBC's Click programme is usually quite good at reporting on the latest trends, and they even make mention of Linux on the odd occasion. Yes, Linux, not just Ubuntu. This week's programme brings us more information on NFC (Near Field Communication), an insight into the latest progress in using brain power to control tech, and of course the new breed of smart phones with quad-core processors that are just around the corner.

Of particular interest at least to me is an ASUS phone using Android of course that can be slid into a tablet that can be attached to a keyboard for docking, thus providing us with anything from a phone to a fully fledged laptop depending on your needs. An evolution of the idea that first materialized in the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer. Noice.
