Ergonomics and Gnome Software

Ergonomics is about the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize overall interaction. In short, ergonomics is about making things comfortable and efficient to work with. This also applies to software design and development, or at least it should.

NSA Calls iPhone Users 'Zombies': Richard Stallman Was Right Again

According to a recent article on VentureBeat NSA calls iPhone users ‘zombies’ and Steve Jobs ‘Big Brother’. This one just reminds me so much of Mr Stallman's slightly controversial blog post "I'm not glad he's dead, but I'm glad he's gone". Seems like he was right again. Summary: Stallman: "Steve Jobs, the pioneer of the computer as a jail made cool, designed to sever fools from their freedom, has died." Support the Free Software Foundation now if you can. Because the state of affairs is worse than you think.

Richard Stallman Calls Ubuntu "Spyware"

Ha, well, it was only a matter of time, and we all know that, just like Linus, Mr Stallman pulls no punches. Take that, Canonical. I'm far from a free software zealot or a Ubuntu basher, although I try and live without proprietary stuff as much as possible (is that a reasonable stance?) and I'm generally not using Ubuntu because I do not particularly like it. There are a lot of alternatives out there. At present I'ld be more likely to run Haiku than Ubuntu but that's besides the point. Do what you like but be aware of why you're doing it and the potential pitfalls.
