More reviews and areas of interest

Hello there,

both the reviews on Unity Linux and on Kongoni GNU/Linux were received quite well. Got a lot of reads and even the first comments here on this site. Thank you.

My interest is to look at the more obscure and lesser known distributions that don't get much airtime usually. So I'll slowly work myself through them over the next few years. In particular I am interested in distributions from the Slackware, Debian and Mandriva based corners of the Linux world. Also on innovative projects that are not based on anything, like Frugalware.

Back in the day I really enjoyed Foresight Linux which it seems has ceased to exist. It even has disappeared from the Distrowatch listing. That was in my Gnome loving days though.

After my first piece on comparing three Slackware derivatives with Xfce4 as main desktop (see link to the right) several readers on Distrowatch expressed disappointment that Absolute Linux had been left out. It didn't fit in then due to it using IceWM, and the article was already long enough, but I'm going to rectify this. I'm currently working on reviews for Absolute Linux and another one on SalixOS "LXDE edition". They may appear here, or on Distrowatch or any other site like OSnews and Tuxmachines. It depends on the timing and the space they have available (some sites can only do one feature story a week).

Several readers also missed me mentioning Wolvix and Vectorlinux. Their last releases were both older than a year by the time it was published, and I thought it wouldn't be fair bringing such old releases into the comparison, using much older kernels etc. I will definitely do another write-up with both of them once they both have new stable versions available, but by the looks of it it will take another year.

For the next couple of weeks I won't have that much time because I'm going to have to move and start a new job, and will be away from my computers for a few days (oh horror). But I hope we can soon pick it up again.

Until later-
