FVWM-Crystal Theme Pack Update

FVWM-Crystal is a great looking mod and theme pack that is unintrusive and can co-exist with FVWM without altering its settings. There haven't been any updates for a few years but it can still be compiled from source code and is available in the Debian repositories since Etch (4.0). Here's the old home page. Now, it's good to hear it's actually not dead and you can get the latest release on box-look.org (direct link). It seems development has really picked up again and another one is in the pipeline. You can check the changelog on Sourceforge. Updates include new themes and bug fixes. FVWM is extremely light on resources.

Here's the announcement:

"FVWM-Crystal aims to create an easy to use, eye-candy but also powerful desktop environment for Linux or other Unix-like operating systems. It can be easily extended with external programs like Thunar or ROX-Filer, MPD, XMMS2, AlsaPlayer or MPlayer as music/media players (there's built-in support for controlling these programs), and several other tools for different functions, like setting a wallpaper or making screen shots.

After a few years without new development, I made 2 new releases and a third one is in preparation, each one with a lot of new features and bug fixes.

Some of those new features are a font preferences system which full xft support, translucency support (with transset and xcompmgr - a Bling bling module is on the SVN and will be part of the comming release), DVDNAV and DVB support with the MPlayer control, and last but not least, the FullScreen mode have been extended to provide an Amiga OS like stack of full-screened applications. See this like an innovative way to flow through the desktop space without compromizing the traditional X multiple desktop pages.

To be noted: FVWM-Crystal will not screw up existing FVWM configurations."
